ERIE - An Erie man was sentenced Wednesday to 45 years in prison in a plot that left a pizza deliveryman-turned-robber dead from a bomb locked to his neck.

Kenneth Barnes, 56, apologized in federal court. He said what happened to the deliveryman, Brian Wells, "wasn't supposed to be." Barnes pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy and aiding and abetting.

Wells died when the bomb exploded shortly after the robbery in August 2003.

The alleged mastermind is Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, 59. She is awaiting an exam to determine if she is mentally competent to stand trial.    - AP
