A man who barricaded himself inside his Haddon Heights house this morning has surrendered peacefully to police, the Camden County prosecutor's office said.

Authorities have not released the name of the man who held off dozens of police cruisers, fire trucks, a bomb squad and a SWAT team for several hours.

The man exited his home on Wayne Avenue, near the intersection of the Black Horse Pike and Kings Highway, after communicating with authorities through his door. Police took him into custody.

Authorities were dispatched to the scene shortly before 10 a.m. after a woman called to report seeing someone drag a man out of the home and leave him on the porch, said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

The man had "very serious" injuries that he apparently sustained during an assault last night, Laughlin said. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was also found to have drugs in his system, Laughlin said.

The man in the house, whom Laughlin said had no violent criminal history, initially refused to come out. Nearby businesses were evacuated, according to reports.
