One dead, one missing in Brandywine Creek

An afternoon kayaking trip in Chester County turned deadly today, authorities said.

Emergency responders from multiple municipalities rushed to the Brandywine Creek in East Bradford Township near the Brandywine Picnic Park (intersection of Creek Road and Route 52) in response to a 1:41 p.m. dispatch, police said.

One man who was rescued from the swollen, fast-moving creek and taken to Chester County Hospital died this afternoon, police said. He was not immediately identified. After an hour of searching for his male companion, authorities acknowledged that they were in a recovery mode.
