A two-alarm blaze struck an apartment building in the Upper Roxborough section tonight, but no life-threatening injuries were immediately reported, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire was reported 8:53 p.m. at 7901 Henry Ave., in a five-story building, said Executive Fire Chief Daniel Williams. The second alarm was declared at 9:02.
Numerous residents were rescued by firefighters before the blaze was declared under control, Williams said. An evacuation site was established at the nearby W.B. Saul High School.
Several medic units were called for people needing to be taken to hospitals, but their conditions were not immediately known, Williams said. - Robert Moran
