A body found in the Schuylkill yesterday morning could be that of a man who jumped into the water while fleeing state police following a Saturday car crash on I-76.

Five cars were involved in a minor accident on the eastbound side of the Schuylkill Expressway in Lower Merion Township around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. When troopers arrived, a man involved in the crash gave false identification, then fled across both lanes of traffic, jumped a concrete barrier, and ran toward the river, state police said.

Troopers said they saw the man begin to swim across the river but did not see him emerge from the water. Police and rescue crews searched the river for several hours but called off the search around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Police identified the man who fled troopers as Robert Jermaine Clark, 35, of Glenside. Police were working last night to confirm if Clark was the man found in the river.
