A Brink's guard opened fire this morning on a gunman who fled with what officials said was a small amount of money during an armored car stickup in South Philadelphia.
It was not clear if the bandit, who escaped in a waiting getaway car, was wounded.
The FBI said the robber walked up to the guard as he was entening the Conestoga Bank branch on the 700 block of South 10th Street about 11:30 a.m. and pointed a dark colored pistol.
He grabbed a heavy cash box, apparently filled with coins, from the guard and fled north on 10th, spilling some of the loot as the guard fired at him, officials said.
The bandit jumped into a burgundy colored SUV with tinted windows, possibly a GMC Devali or a Chevrolet, and sped away.
The gunman is described as a thin black male, 25 to 30 years old, with a long black beard. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, a dark baseball cap and black pants that were rolled up above his ankles.
