FBI seizes N. Philly charter school records
FBI agents today seized financial records from a North Philadelphia charter school.
Mike Mustokoff, an attorney representing the Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School, confirmed that agents retrieved the records this morning.
In a statement, Mustokoff said that the Philadelphia School District informed school officials two weeks ago that it would be picking up financial records for review.
Those records were ready, Mustokoff said.
"We were surprised by the unnecessary appearance of FBI agents to retrieve those same records that were awaiting inspection," Mustokoff said in the statement. "We expect to cooperate with the authorities and to be exonerated of any potential allegations of wrongdoing."
The school, on Erie Avenue, serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grades.
At least five Philadelphia area charter schools are under investigation in a widening federal probe of allegations of the misspending of public funds, lack of controls and lack of oversight.
