No share of $333M here, but Pa. ticket wins $1M

As consolation prizes go, Pennsylvania and New Jersey didn't too bad over the weekend.

As consolation prizes go, Pennsylvania and New Jersey didn't too bad over the weekend.

The second biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever - $333 million - was hit Friday night by one ticket sold in New York, another in California.

As of this morning, lottery officials had no announcement about who struck it rich at the Fordham Grocery and Convenience Store in the Bronx, or at the Kim Ky Noodle House in San Gabriel.

But six New Jersey tickets won $250,000 for having the first five numbers - 1, 17, 31, 37 and 54 - but not the Mega Ball of 31. So did seven in New York, six in Calfornia, four in Texas, three in Georgia, two each in Michigan and Ohio, and one apiece in Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington.

Tomorrow's top prize will be worth $12 million.

Powerball, though, will be worth $45 million Wednesday night, because no one matched all the numbers drawn Saturday night: 1, 20, 37, 52 and 53, with a Powerball of 33.

Two new millionaires were minted, however, in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Their tickets missed the Powerball, but had the first five numbers, plus the Power Play multiplier option, which automatically jacks up the regular runner-up payout of $200,000 to $1 million.

For lower level prizes, Saturday's Power Play of 3 simply triples the awards.

The three tickets that won $200,000 were sold in Arizona, Rhode Island and South Dakota.

Powerball is played in 30 states, including Delaware.

Mega Millions is played in a dozen states.
