A 54-year-old man was shot and killed during a robbery inside his corner store in Southwest Philadelphia tonight, police said.

A 54-year-old man was shot and killed during a robbery inside his corner store in Southwest Philadelphia tonight, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the Peralta Grocery Store at the corner of South 66th and Dorel Streets, police said. The gunman reportedly entered the store, opened a door to a secure area behind the cash register and shot the owner. He took $2,000 from the man's pockets and fled on foot.

The owner, whose name was not released, was shot in the right side of the abdomen, police said. He was transported by a medic unit to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and later pronounced dead.

The owner's wife was in the store and accompanied her husband to the hospital. She was not hurt.
