Philadelphia police fired one shot at a fleeing theft suspect Sunday morning during a foot chase in Point Breeze after the male allegedly pulled a silver handgun from his waistband.
The man, who was not hit, continued to run and was apprehended by officers minutes later, said Lt. Frank Vanore. He was in custody Sunday afternoon but had not yet been charged and police were not releasing his identity. Vanore said police had not found a gun in his possession and were searching the area.
The incident began shortly before 9:30 a.m. when two officers from the 17th District noticed three males walking at 21st and Dickinson Streets. One was carrying a black duffel bag. When the officers attempted to stop the three, each took off running, Vanore said. Two got away.
They left the duffel bag behind. Inside, were two Verizon computers believed to have been stolen from a Verizon truck parked about a block away, Vanore said.
