World Series forecast: Drizzly tonight, wetter Saturday?

Rain may play a role in the World Series tonight and Saturday night.

Rain may play a role in the World Series tonight and Saturday night.

The system that drenched the Philadelphia area overnight should let up hours before game time - 7:57 tonight at Yankee Stadium - according to the National Weather Service.

Drizzle and mist are likely, and spotty rain might even cause a brief delay or two, according to meterologist Jim Poirier with the service's Mount Holly office. Temperatures should be in the low 50s, high 40s.

"It'll damp and raw for sure," he said.

But the rain won't be serious or steady enough to cause a postponement, he predicted.

One effect has already been felt, however: Tickets prices may have dipped a bit on the resale market.

The cheapest seats, which were fetching more than $300 each, could be selling for about $200 by game time, said Don Vaccaro, chief executive of TicketNetwork.

Perhaps a similar effect could happen for Game 3, the first game in Philadelphia, scheduled for Saturday evening.

As of yesterday, the average sales price at StubHub.com for Game 3 was about $1,000. This morning, the lowest buy-now price was $425 for standing-room tickets.

Saturday's forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of showers during the afternoon and evening.

"That may go up depending on how strong this incoming system is," said Poirier, referring to a front expected to start coming through on Friday.

Temperatures should be warmer Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s.

The forecasts look relatively rain-free for Thursday night's game at Yankee Stadium, Sunday's games in Philadelphia - Eagles-New York Giants in the afternoon, World Series at night - and Monday's possible Game 5.
