Police questioning man in airport hotel slaying

Homicide detectives were interviewing a possible suspect this evening in the slaying of a city man shot to death at a hotel near Philadelphia International Airport.

Homicide detectives were interviewing a possible suspect this evening in the slaying of a city man shot to death at a hotel near Philadelphia International Airport.

The victim, Tyre West, 28, had been at the Residence Inn by Marriott with his girlfriend and another man, said Capt. James Clark of the homicide unit.

"We believe all three of the individuals had some type of liaison with each other, they knew each other in some way," said Clark. "What brought them there, I'm not prepared to say quite yet."

Sometime during the night, the man attempted to rob West's 28-year-old girlfriend at gunpoint. West tried to intervene. During the struggle, West, of Hunting Park, was shot once in the chest. He collapsed in front of room 211, where police found him shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, Clark said.

Clark said detectives were also interviewing West's girlfriend. The man, whom Clark did not name, has not yet been charged.
