Detectives this morning are questioning a man who said he was asleep in the backseat of a parked minivan when an unknown gunman approached and shot his friend as he climbed into the driver's seat.

The 22-year-old victim, from West Philadelphia, left a home on the 6000 block of Keystone Street in the Wissinoming section shortly after 6 a.m., police said.

The victim had just climbed behind the wheel of his gray Ford minivan when the gunman walked up and fired several shots, striking him in the stomach and legs, police said the other man told them.

The man in the backseat, who said he did not see the gunman, pushed his wounded friend out of the driver's seat and drove to St. Christopher's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:41 a.m., police said.
