He picked up $1 million at Super Fresh

Imagine the ideal grocery list: milk ... eggs . . . $1 million.

Edward Torres of Yardley has stepped forward with the $1 million Powerball ticket sold at the local Super Fresh on Big Oak Road for Wednesday's drawing.

Using a quick pick, he not only matched the first five numbers - which alone would pay $200,000 - he also bought the $1 Power Play multiplier option, automatically hiking the loot to seven figures.

He was the state's fifth such winner this year - after "just" six such first-five plus power-play winners last year.

Last month, also winning $1 million in Powerball were Philip Mormando Jr. of Folcroft, Delaware County, and Deforest Smith of Beaver Falls, Beaver County.

In January, Larry Wallace Jr. of York had a similar Powerball win.

And Mega Millions, the other multistate lottery, minted another $1 million winner last month, a group represented by Joan Lapyczak of Baden, Beaver County. The ticket hit the first five numbers - normally good for $250,000 - while also having the Megaplier, which was 4. Multiply, you get $1 million.

That's not saying it's wise to play these games for second place. Powerball's odds of winning $1 million are worse than 1 in 5 million - and that costs $2.

By the way, instant games, raffles and other drawings, such as Super 7, last year created more than 30 winners of at least $1 million in Pennsylvania.

January's Millionaire Raffle produced another four.
