Van overturns, catches fire on I-95

A minivan overturned and burst into flames on I-95 this morning, closing northbound lanes of the highway and causing a miles-long backup.

A 40-year-old pregnant woman who had been in the car was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition, officials said.

The van rolled over about 6:45 a.m. on northbound I-95 near Bridge Street and the flames enveloped the front end.

Firefighters quickly put out the blaze, but police closed the northbound lanes until about 7:25 a.m., when they gradually reopened the highway to traffic.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
