Top cop backs officer who stopped fan with stun gun

Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey this morning defended a police officer's use of a Taser stun gun stop a 17-year-old fan who ran onto the field at Monday night's Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.

Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey this morning defended a police officer's use of a Taser stun gun stop a 17-year-old fan who ran onto the field at Monday night's Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.

"It was inappropriate for him to be out there on the field," the commissioner told KYW Radio. "Unless I read something to the contrary, that officer acted appropriately. I support him 100 percent."

Ramsey said as far as the fan being a teenager, the officer had no way of knowing that.

The fan has been charged as a juvenile with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and defiant trespass. He was released to his parents this morning.

The Phillies say they plan to talk with the police about whether Tasers should be in similar situations in the future.
