A spectacular car fire disrupted traffic into the city on the Schuylkill Expressway during this morning's rush hour.

A spectacular car fire disrupted traffic into the city on the Schuylkill Expressway during this morning's rush hour.

No injuries were reported and the motorist pulled the car to the shoulder and got out of the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames in the eastbound lanes of the highway, west of the Montgomery Drive interchange.

The fire, which unfolded live to viewers of nearby a PennDot camera, erupted about 8:20 a.m. and spewed thick black flames into the sky.

Firefighters extinguished the fire about 8:40 a.m., shortly after the first pumper truck arrived at the scene near the Greenland Drive overpass.

The blaze backed up eastbound traffic for miles on the expressway.

The cause is under investigation.
