Police seek motive in slaying of man, 22

Police say the shooting of a man found dead Wednesday near a hospital in Kensington was not related to a store robbery earlier in the day.

Police say the shooting of a man found dead Wednesday near a hospital in Kensington was not related to a store robbery earlier in the day.

The victim was identified today as Devon Cross, 22, of the 2000 block of W. Lawrence Street.

He was found on the 100 block of West Huntingdon Street, near Temple University's Episcopal Hospital.

Initially, police thought Cross may have been wounded earlier when a shop owner opened fire on a group of robbers in Olney.

But Homicide Unit Lt. Philip Riehl said all indications are that Cross was shot where he was found.

Why and by whom are not yet known, Riehl said.
