Police ID 2 Camden County men killed in crashes

Two drivers who died this weekend in South Jersey crashes have been identified by state police.

Two drivers who died this weekend in South Jersey crashes have been identified by state police.

The accidents were unrelated, but both men were Camden County residents in their late 50s whose vehicles left the main lanes of traffic.

Sunday morning's victim, Robert Barth, was a "longtime high-school teacher who coached baseball and baseball for decades in South Jersey," according to a story in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Barth, 59, of Winslow Township, was driving north on Route 42 in Belmawr when his 2008 Mercury Mariner went onto the shoulder and struck a disabled pickup truck, state police said.

He was ejected as his SUV flipped and somehow came to rest on top of him, said Sgt. Stephen Jones.

The accident happened about 6:42 a.m., and Barth was pronounced dead at 7:14 a.m. at Cooper University Medical Center in Camden.

About 4:40 Saturday afternoon, Earl Small, 57, of Cherry Hill was heading west on the Atlantic City Expressway in Winslow Township.

During an attempt to change lanes, his car went off the road and struck a tree, Jones said.

The Chrysler Neon was engulfed in flames, trapping Small inside.

He was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m.

The identity of the body was confirmed by an autopsy on Sunday.
