Police ID 19-year-old slain in West Philadelphia

Police have released the name of a young man killed Tuesday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

Lamar Murphy, 19, of the 1300 block of North 60th Street, was talking with a group of teenage girls in the Carroll Park neighborhood about 3:15 p.m., and had walked away before gunfire erupted, according to police.

He was found shot in the head in the 1400 block of North Edgewood Street, just a few blocks from where he lived.

Murphy was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at 3:29 p.m.

A second male was shot in the shoulder, and was released after being treated at HUP, police said.

Police this morning could not confirm an earlier report that he was shot a block away on North 60th Street and turned up at a hospital.

The investigation had not determined motive or any suspects as this morning.
