A 24th District police officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire after he stopped a van in the 2800 block of North Water Street around 9 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

A 24th District police officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire after he stopped a van in the 2800 block of North Water Street around 9 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was being treated for a gunshot wound in his leg. He was reported in stable condition.
The suspected shooter, whose identity was not disclosed, was in custody Thursday night, police said. - Robert Moran
