A 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were both struck by stray gunfire Friday night during what police said was an impromptu rap contest at Hunting Park.
A 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were both struck by stray gunfire Friday night during what police said was an impromptu rap contest at Hunting Park.
The injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
A crowd of hundreds of young people subsquently moved over to Broad Street and began walking south followed by numerous police vehicles, but no further incidents were reported with that crowd.
Police also were monitoring other crowds of youths during the night. No arrests or property damage was reported.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of Old York Road near Hunting Park, police said. The boy was shot once in both elbows and the girls was shot in the back of her left leg.
Both victims were transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center and were listed in stable condition, police said.
The police described the shooting as a drive-by committed by three males in a white Buick. No arrests were immediately reported.
A large group of young people reportedly converged in the Susquehanna-Dauphin subway station on Broad Street. Police dispersed the crowd.
Police also were following crowds along South Street.
