Police catch man sought in wounding of officer

A man sought in the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer is in custody.

A man sought in the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer is in custody.

Anel Cuenas, 27, was arrested about 5 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

Police said he is being questioned by detectives at the Police Administration Building, 8th and Race Streets.

A $10,000 reward had been offered for information leading to the arrest of Cuenas in the wounding Thursday night of Officer Kevin Livewell during a gun battle on North Water Street,

A second man whose name has not been released is in custody in the shooting and police were still seeking a third.

Men armed with assault weapons began shooting at Livewell and his partner, Officer Brian Issel, when the two approached a van that matched the description of one involved in an earlier shooting. Livewell, 30, was wounded in the right leg and is in good condition at Temple University Hospital.

Court records show Cuenas has convictions on drug charges.
