Kimlime Chek-Taylor, a veteran Philadelphia educator of Cambodian heritage, is the Asian assistant principal that Superintendent Arlene Ackerman pledged to assign to troubled South Philadelphia High, The Inquirer has learned.
Chek-Taylor was previously dean of students at John H. Taggart School, which teaches grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
Efforts to reach her were unsuccessful. New South Philadelphia High Principal Otis Hackney, about to take over a school where 30 Asian students were attacked on Dec. 3, said he could not discuss the matter before checking with district public-relations officials.
Earlier this week, Ackerman announced a series of changes she planned for South Philadelphia High, including the assignment of an Asian assistant principal.
