A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by an out-of-control car this morning while waiting for a school bus in Newark, Del., police said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was waiting for the bus on Whitaker Road about 7:05 a.m. when he was struck by a 1996 Acura with Malcolm Deshields, 21, behind the wheel, state police said.

Police said Deshields, of Newark, was eastbound on Old Baltimore Park when he swerved across the westbound lane and into a ditch.

Deshields' car continued heading east across Whitaker Road, hitting the waiting teen and going into another ditch, police said.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deshields was treated at Christiana Hospital for minor injuries and released.

An investigation is under way and no charges have been announced yet.

The fatality closed Old Baltimore Pike for three hours, police said.
