N.J. firm picked for Rt. 202 widening work

Plans to widen four miles of Route 202 to three lanes in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin Townships moved closer to construction today, PennDot said.

Plans to widen four miles of Route 202 to three lanes in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin Townships moved closer to construction today, PennDot said.

It said a New Jersey company submitted an apparent low bid of $105,415,093 for the reconstruction and widening from just north of the Route 401 Interchange to just south of the Swedesford Road Interchange.

The Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. Inc. of Woodstown submitted the bid, which will be evaluated to ensure it conforms to federal and state specifications, PennDot said in a  statement.

Construction is scheduled to start in March and be finished in June 2014, the department said. During the multistage project, which will include replacing bridges and adding sound barriers, two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction during the day with some overnight lane closures. - Kathleen Brady Shea
