A South Jersey high school soccer star died in a car crash Thursday, the same day a newspaper named him a first team all star.

State Police say Nicholas Gazzara III, 18, a senior at Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, lost control of his car on snow covered Route 54 in Buena Vista and collided with an oncoming truck.

He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The truck's driver was hospitalized in stable condition.

The Press of Atlantic City on Thursday had named Gazzara first-team all-star, noting he had set a school record with 42 goals this season and led his team to the Cape-Atlantic League National title.

He also held the school record for most career goals, 81.
