Man slain in N. Phila. high-rise stairwell

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night in the stairwell of a Philadelphia Housing Authority high-rise in North Philadelphia, police said today.

The victim, Stephen Wilson, was a resident of the Blumberg Apartments building on the 1500 block of Judson Place, police said.

Officers responding to a call from a shooting found Wilson shot in the head and torso in the stairwell between the 9th and 10th floors about 7:50 p.m., police said.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 8:03 p.m.

Investigators are trying to determine a motive in the killing.
