A 64-year-old man was stabbed and critically wounded during a robbery this morning in a restroom at the old Lit Brothers building in Center City, police said.

Police have a suspect in custody. He has not been identified.

The victim, identified by witnesses as Ben Davis, was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Davis had come to pick up his wife, who was having her hair done at the Salon Hair Express, said Ren'ee DeSanto, a stylist there.

"He came stumbling around here, bleeding profusely from the head," she said. "I called 911. I got to give them credit. I told the lady what happened and they were here immediately."

The husband sat in the salon's small waiting area, fading in and out of consciousness until medics arrived, DeSanto said.

He had been stabbed in the head, back and chest about 10:50 a.m., police said. The restroom, which was closed in the afternoon, is on the concourse level of the Mellon Center complex on the 700 block of Market Street.

The concourse connects to the Market Frankford Subway line, the Ridge Avenue Spur line and PATCO High Speed Line.

DeSanto said the couple lives in Camden and the husband often picks up his wife. They ride home on the train
