Hatboro-Horsham reaches deal with teachers

The Hatboro-Horsham School District and its teachers union approved a new four-year contract Monday.

The Hatboro-Horsham School District and its teachers union approved a new four-year contract Monday.

Jackie Anderson, president of the Hatboro-Horsham Education Association, said her members approved the agreement Monday afternoon. The school board voted to approve the deal later that evening.

The contract covers the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years and calls for average salary increases over four years of 2.48 percent. That includes a salary freeze for the coming school year and limited retroactivity for this school year and the 2009-10 year, according to a joint statement by the school district and the union.

Other terms of the agreement include:

Increased employee contributions for all existing health care plans, as well as the introduction of a lower-cost, high-quality alternative plan.

A retirement incentive plan that would offer 4-percent retroactive salary increases for 2009-10 and 2010-11 to teachers who retire at the end of this school year.
