Police charge man hit by car
A 40-year-old man who was struck and injured by a car in Wilmington Thursday night has now been charged with jaywalking and shoplifting, police said.
UPDATE: Sean Jones died of his injuries on Sunday, May 22, police said on May 25.
A 40-year-old man who was struck and injured by a car in Wilmington Thursday night has now been charged with jaywalking and shoplifting, police said.
Delaware State Police said that after Sean Jones, of New Castle, was struck on the Kirkwood Highway, they found the scene, including the hood of the 1995 Ford that hit him, littered with bottles of lotions and hand soap.
Investigators later determined the bottles had been stolen from a nearby Deals store, police said.
Jones, who was thrown about 30 feet when the car hit him, was admitted to Christiana Hospital with injuries that police said were not life threatening,
Besides shoplifting, he was charged with crossing a roadway at other than a crosswalk and failure to carry a light on a roadway.
The 58-year-old female motorist who hit him was treated for minor injuries and released. She was not charged.
