Homicide detectives have called a news conference to announce an arrest warrant in the shooting death of immigrant store clerk Mustafa Shaker during an attempted robbery early Thursday.

The break in the case comes less than 24 hours after police released surveillance videos showing two men who tried to rob Shaker, 50, inside the Trax Foods store on Front Street at Girard Avenue.

The news conference is set for 2 p.m. at the Police Headquarters, 8th and Race Streets.

Shaker, a father of two teenagers and a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Egypt, was shot in the head when closed a cash register on the bandits.
