Rescuers respond to Platt Bridge jumper

Traffic on the westbound side of the George C. Platt Bridge has been snarled while fire crews rescued a person who jumped off the bridge, fire officials said.

The man, whose identity was not available, reportedly jumped from the bridge at 5:49 p.m., officials said. Responding fire crews reported seeing the waving at them in the Schuylkill River near the Sunoco Refinery. The man was later reported to be hanging on to a pier, where he was picked up by a small fire department boat at 6:16 p.m.

There was no immediate information on the man's condition.
