Accident turns NE Extension into parking lot

Traffic ground to halt today on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike after officials closed the highway following a one vehicle crash in Montgomery County.

No word yet on conditions of any victims of the crash, but at least one person had to be airlifted from the scene in the southbound lanes between the Lansdale exit and the mid-county tolls.

At 12:08 p.m., the Turnpike Authority reported that southbound traffic was being detoured at Lansdale.

Northbound traffic was halted for a time to allow the medical helicopter to land.

The accident involving a jeep occurred before 11:15 a.m.
