Bam Margera’s new Porsche smashed by pickup in Chesco

A minor traffic accident involving a Jackass star turned surreal at times Thursday in Chester County when the driver at fault reportedly became giddy when he recognized the other motorist.

State police said MTV star Brandon "Bam" Margera was "stopped at a properly posted stop sign" at 1:48 p.m. on southbound Locust Grove Road at Corrine Road in Pocopson Township, close to his home. An unidentified driver of a Ford pickup who was turning onto Locust Grove sideswiped Margera's 2011 Porsche Panamera, police said.

April Margera said her son, who immediately called his parents to get insurance information, saw the crash coming.

"I'm watching this truck make the widest turn ever, and thinking: 'That guy's going to stop, isn't he?' " he told his mother.

April Margera said that after the truck scraped the length of her son's four-month-old car, he asked the driver: "Did you not see me?"

"He told Bam he was looking at his GPS," April Margera said. "And then he got excited and happy when he realized who he hit."

April Margera said her son had no interest in getting the other driver, an employee trying to make a delivery, in trouble and did not want to press charges.

She said that after her son called 911 and was waiting for police, another driver stopped, but not to offer assistance.

"He said, 'I'm sitting there with my car all smashed up and someone wanted directions' " to an apple farm, his mother related.

Trooper Corey Monthei, a state police spokesman from the Avondale barracks, said the incident qualified as a "non-reportable crash" since no one was injured, no vehicle was towed, and no sign of drug or alcohol impairment existed. He said the fact that the truck driver was not cited was not unusual.

"That occasionally happens," Monthei said. "I don't know the specifics here. . . . Sometimes we'll just issue a warning."

A West Chester native, Margera skateboarded to fame on MTV's Jackass, a venue for stupid human tricks that led to a succession of popular movies.

The accident comes four months after Margera's best friend and costar, Ryan Dunn, crashed his 2007 Porsche in West Goshen Township - a fiery speed- and alcohol-fueled wreck that killed Dunn and his only passenger.

According to auto websites, the cost of a 2011 Porsche Panamera ranges from $88,000 to $152,000.
