A 24-year-old Bensalem mother of six children was arrested today and charged with neglecting and abusing her 3-year-old daughter, severely burning her hand in one incident, police said.
A 24-year-old Bensalem mother of six children was arrested today and charged with neglecting and abusing her 3-year-old daughter, severely burning her hand in one incident, police said.
Andrea Amaya, of 3131 Knights Road, was jailed on $200,000 bail following her initial appearance, police said.
Police said she became the focus of an investigation on Nov. 3 when her daughter was hospitalized at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia a third-degree burn to her right hand and bruising throughout her body.
A further examination determined that the child was "severely abused, neglected, and malnourished," Bensalem Police said in a statement.
The girl is now "thriving" with a foster family after treatment of her injuries, including skin grafts for her burned hand, police said.
Police said Amaya's five other children also have been placed in foster care.
Amaya has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and simple assault, police said.
