Truck full of wine loses axle at City Hall

A tractor trailer hauling wine broke an axle after smashing into one of the metal bollards that rim Philadelphia City Hall early this morning.

A tractor trailer hauling wine broke an axle after smashing into one of the metal bollards that rim Philadelphia City Hall early this morning.

A liquid was flowing underneath the large truck, but it was unclear if it was wine.

The incident occurred sometime around 4:30 a.m., according to police.

The tractor trailer, fully loaded with wine, was apparently rounding City Hall when its rear axle struck the bollard, and the trailer became disabled partially on the pavement.

Police restricted access to the lane closest to City Hall, between South Broad and Juniper Streets.

However, traffic was light approaching the holiday weekend, and it was not significantly impacting the commute at 6 a.m.
