At least two homicides ring in new year

Police are confirming the death of a 77-year-old man at a South Philadelphia home shortly after revelers welcomed in 2012.

Police are confirming the death of a 77-year-old man at a South Philadelphia home shortly after revelers welcomed in 2012.

Details, however, were few as of earlier this morning.

The fatal stabbing took place on the 2500 block of Jessup Street about 12:30 a.m.

And, there was at least one more homicide when a man was shot shortly after 4 a.m.

Reports first came in about a shooting victim at 8th and Callowhill Streets. But the incident may have been connected to an incident that began on N. 2nd Street.

The victim was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital.
