A 25-year-old Morrisville man was shot outside his apartment late Saturday night and died hours later, Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said Sunday.

Erick Stephens was shot with a handgun at close range by a man in a gray hoodie at the Pennsbury Court Apartments, Heckler said. The shooting was reported about 11:40 p.m.

Heckler gave this account of the evening:

Stephens and his girlfriend went out for dinner and returned to the apartment complex on Plaza Boulevard off West Trenton Avenue. They were going out again, when Stephens returned to his apartment for cigarettes while his girlfriend waited in the car.

As Stephens headed back to the car, he was confronted by his assailant and shot three times. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:39 a.m. Sunday.

Heckler did not provide the girlfriend's name but said she had cooperated with police. Police questioned neighbors but do not have a person of interest, he said.

Anyone who saw anything or has information about the shooting can call county detectives at 215-945-3100 or Morrisville police at 215-295-8181.
