Two people were killed when fire broke out Thursday afternoon in their West Philadelphia home, officials said.

A third person, a woman, was rescued from the roof of the building and taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania critical condition.

The blaze broke out about 3:30 p.m. at 4100 Pennsgrove St. and was under control in about half an hour. The cause is still under investigation.

Flames were already coming from the house when firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said.

Fire officials said that one of those who died in the fire was an adult female.
