A 25-year-old man was ambushed and shot multiple times in his driveway as he approached his Upper Darby, Delaware County, residence early this morning, according to Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Police say Khayree Reidhad just arrived at the home on the 7000 block of Parkview Road about 12:30 a.m. today when a lone gunman emerged from hiding. Reid suffered several wounds below the waist and was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was listed in critical condition.

Reid's girlfriend and the couple's four-year-old daughter were in the house at the time. Chitwood said the family had moved into the home about one month ago from Southwest Philadelphia.

Reid had $1,700 on him when he was shot.

"They didn't take the money. Just shot him and took off," Chitwood said. "It was just pure and simple: they were out to kill him."

It remains unknown if the assailant was alone, or if someone was driving the getaway car, described as a dark colored sedan.

Authorities have no suspects.
