A 52-year-old man was stabbed to death in West Philadelphia and a 31-year-old woman was shot in the head and fatally wounded in East Mount Airy in violence overnight, police said.

Police are seeking a possible motive in the killing of the man, who was found stabbed in the chest on the 5600 block of Arch Street.

The victim, who lived in the area, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25 a.m., police said.

The woman was shot in the head about 2:05 a.m. while sitting in a car with a man on the 1100 block of Mount Airy Avenue, police said.

Police said the pair had gone there for a meeting, the nature of which was not spelled out.

A woman on the street spoke briefly to the victim before walking away, police said. A man then came up and shot the woman in the car in the head.

She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition, but she later died, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
