For 2d time in 12 hours, man shot with toddler present

A 25-year-old man in a car with a baby was shot and wounded today in the second such gunfire attack in 12 hours in Philadelphia which a child was present.

A 25-year-old man in a car with a baby was shot and wounded today in the second such gunfire attack in 12 hours in Philadelphia which a child was present.

The 1-year-old girl in today's shooting was not hurt but a 2-year-old suffered a graze wound in a shooting Tuesday night that left a young man fighting for his life.

In the latest attack, gunfire erupted about 10:10 a.m. at North 4th and West Jefferson Streets in North Philadelphia's Ludlow section.

A 25-year-old man sitting in a black Nissan was hit once in each shoulder and once in each leg, police said. His daughter, who also was in the car, escaped unharmed.

The wounded man was reported in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police were seeking a Hispanic man who fled southbound on 4th Street, possibly in a black Lexus.

Tuesday night, a 2-year-old child was caught in the cross fire of a shooting in Strawberry Mansion, and the young man holding her at the time was left fighting for his life, Daily News crime reporter Morgan Zalot writes.

Police said they were called to 29th Street near Huntingdon shortly after 10 p.m. and found the 19-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and the little girl shot in her upper right arm, Chief Inspector Scott Small said at the scene.

The young man was rushed to Temple University Hospital by medics. He remains in extremely critical condition today, police said. The child was treated by medics at the scene on the sidewalk and taken by police to Temple, where she was in stable condition.

Five witnesses were taken to speak with detectives in the Central Detective Division, and investigators were reviewing surveillance footage from businesses in the area to see if it captured the shooting, police said.

Investigators were unsure how the two victims were related, but said they lived at the same address in the neighborhood where the shooting happened.

As police investigated the shooting around 11 p.m. Tuesday, neighbors gathered at the corners watching and a baby's cries echoed from a porch in the middle of the block.

Small said cops found one spent casing from a large-caliber handgun and were checking the block for others.

The only information available on the shooter was that he was last seen running south on 29th Street.

Small called the crime "heinous," but said police were hopeful that between witnesses and surveillance footage, the shooter will be captured.

"The tragic thing is we have a 2-year-old girl shot," he said.
