Free Wendy’s sandwiches in Center City

It's bacon for the takin' today in Center City, as Wendy's promotes a new version of a popular sandwich.

The Ultimate Baconator Challenge Tour began in Boston in August. Philly's giveaway of Son of Baconator cheeseburgers was set for Oct. 2, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., next to the Convention Center.

It's bacon for the takin' today in Center City, as Wendy's promotes a new version of a popular sandwich.

Hundreds of free Son of Baconator Cheeseburgers will be handed out from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Arch Street between Broad and 13th Streets - while supplies last.

Also part of the giveaway: Frosty milkshakes.

In addition, "bacon-themed" games will give visitors a chance to win gift cards, "bacon-themed" T-shirts and other "bacon-themed" merchandise, according to promotional materials.

Basically, a Son of Baconator is a downsized Baconator, with two beef patties, topped with applewood smoked bacon and American cheese, on a toasted and buttered bun.

The Son has 700 calories and 43 grams of fat, while its sire has 970 calories and 63 grams of fat.

The giveaway is part of a national Ultimate Baconator Challenge tour that vows to dispense more than 30,000 sandwiches at 20 towns and a bunch of college football games.
