Cops: Speeding Bentley rams hole in Center City apartments

A speeding, black Bentley rammed an apartment complex near the Philadelphia Museum of Art so hard early this morning that it put a large hole in the brick building.

Police said that the 34-year-old male driver from Philadelphia faces a possible charge of driving under the influence.

The crash occurred about 4:15 a.m. at the Park Towne Place Apartments on the 2200 block of Benjamin Franklin Parkway, police said.

The driver was taken to nearby Hahnemann University Hospital, but he did not appear to be seriously injured, police said. A male passenger in the car broke an arm.

Police believe the car was "traveling at a high rate of speed" when it struck the apartment building.

According to a police report, the 2006 Bentley Continental GT exited the Vine Street Expressway onto 22nd street, disregarded a stop sign, crossed 22nd Street, and became air born.

The car crossed the driveway at Park Towne then struck the apartment complex.

The accident was still under investigation as of this morning.
