A 24-year-old waitress on her way home from work was shot in the back shortly after midnight on a South Philadelphia street, according to police.

A 24-year-old waitress on her way home from work was shot in the back shortly after midnight on a South Philadelphia street, according to police.

South Detectives say the woman was shot about 12:05 a.m. on the 700 block of South 13th Street but have no motive. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.

A single bullet entered her back, and exited through her hip, police said.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that the woman had just left work.

"She has no idea who shot her," he said. "We believe she's an innocent victim. She had just left work when she heard the shots."
