A former Delaware County police officer has been charged with theft after allegedly taking money from a local baseball club.
John Rapp, 43, a former Bethel Township police officer and one-time treasurer of the Chichester Baseball League, allegedly took more than $12,000 for his own personal use, according to court records.
Rapp, of Garnet Valley, has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property, according to court records. He is expected to turn himself in Thursday.
Rapp could not be reached for comment.
Rapp was treasurer of the club between October 2009 and October 2011. At that time Rapp was allowed to use a debit card for league purposes. Undocumented transactions were discovered when a new treasurer, James Cassidy, reviewed the club's books, according to court records.
Cassidy could not immediately be reached for comment.
According to court documents Rapp used the club's debit card to withdraw $5,387 for his own use at Wawa's, Harrah's Casino, the Renaissance Fair and Giant Food Stores.
He paid back that amount to the league.
Investigators also determined Rapp skimmed $7,000 in cash for his own use when paying league umpires fees. Prior to Rapp's tenure, umpires were paid by check.
