A 57-year-old man found dead early Thursday in his Northwest Philadelphia home was recorded as the city's first heat-related death of the year.
The man had a box fan in use in an open window of his rowhouse, said city Health Department spokesman Jeff Moran. There was air-conditioning in the house but it was not turned on.
The man's cause of death was chronic obstructive lung disease, with heat exposure listed as a contributing factor, Moran said. - Robert Moran
