Two of four suspected power-tool thieves were on the loose after their minivan crashed into a taxi during a police chase near the sports stadiums Thursday night in South Philadelphia, police said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the suspects fled with several thousand dollars' worth of power tools from a Home Depot in Ridley Township, said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small. Tinicum Township police spotted the blue Dodge minivan near the Philadelphia International Airport and began a pursuit.

The pursuit ended after the minivan struck a cab on Broad Street near the stadiums, Small said. The taxi driver and two passengers were unhurt. The minivan jumped a curb and crashed on Broad Street under I-95. Two males were quickly apprehended. Another male and a female got away. At some point, a Tinicum officer accidentally fired his gun, Small said. No one was hurt. - Robert Moran
