Woman killed as her speeding car strikes trolley

A woman was killed when her speeding car struck a SEPTA trolley this afternoon, police said.The accident is still under investigation, but SEPTA spokesman Manny Smith said the woman hit a Route 15 trolley head-on as it was leaving the Delaware Avenue Loop around 1 p.m.

The woman, who was driving a 2010 Toyota, was killed, police said. Smith said she was traveling at a high rate of speed when she hit the trolley. The trolley was traveling at 5 mph, he said.

The woman's name was not released.

Seven people were inside the trolley when it was struck - six passengers and a driver. All complained of injuries to the back and shoulder, Smith said.
